Satiriko Theatro brings The Effect, the award-winning play by British playwright Lucy Prebble, to Rialto Theatre in Limassol as part of the Flash Art Festival, directed by Evita Ioannou. It is the play's first staging in Cyprus.
Connie and Tristan sign up for a clinical trial of a new antidepressant. During the experiment they meet and fall in love — but are their feelings real, or a side effect of the drug? As the dose grows, the line between reality and possible hallucination starts to blur. With simplicity, humour and tenderness, the play looks at love, mental health, the ethical limits of science and the clash between reason and impulse.
Prebble wrote The Effect in 2012 for London's National Theatre, where it won the Critics' Circle Award for Best New Play. The Greek translation is by Evita Ioannou and Marianna Kavkaridou; the cast is Rafaela Kavazi, Elena Kallinikou, Andreas Koutsoumpas and Vasilis Michael, with original music by Giorgos Papacostas.
Running time 90 minutes without an interval; age 16+. A €30 festival pass is also available.
