Songs from Troodos and other forests — Androula Kafa

Cypriot musician and sound artist Androula Kafa performs Songs from Troodos and other forests, a song cycle for voice, electronics and body, at Rialto Theatre in Limassol during the Flash Art Festival.

The songs took shape over the past year through encounters with the more-than-human world, above all the mountains and forests of Troodos. Mourning, desire, prayer and protest follow one another as the performance faces the ecological and political violence of the present; trees, birds and the elements become songs and offerings that reach for wonder to drive out despair.

The stage landscape is made with artist Elena Savvidou (scenography and prosthetics), with costumes and styling by Christos Kyriakides. Kafa works across choral, contemporary classical, ambient and experimental electronic music, drawn to where ecology and spirituality meet. The performance lasts 40 minutes; a €30 festival pass is also available.
