The Blue Hour is a contemporary dance solo by Brussels-based French choreographer Benjamin Kahn, performed by Théo Aucremanne at Rialto Theatre in Limassol as part of the Flash Art Festival.
The title refers to the suspended moment between night and day, when nocturnal animals have fallen silent and daytime ones are not yet awake — an image of a society caught between ideological and ecological crises. Aucremanne builds and takes apart movement drawn from classical statuary and ballet, cabaret, Nijinsky, krump and stepping, evoking adolescence as the in-between state of no longer a child, not yet an adult. Jan Fedinger's lighting was designed in dialogue with the choreography.
Created in 2023, the piece completes Kahn's trilogy of portraits that began with his works with Cherish Menzo and Thi Mai Nguyen. It was selected for the TRIO(S) Onda/SACD programme, and Kahn was named an Aerowaves Priority Company in 2024. Running time 55 minutes; a €30 festival pass is also available.
