Spanish period-instrument group Pérgamo Ensemble and mezzo-soprano Lidia Vinyes-Curtis make their Cyprus debut at The Shoe Factory in Nicosia with an evening of 18th-century Spanish Baroque, presented by the Pharos Arts Foundation.
The ensemble won the Grand Jury Prize at the Gijón Early Music Competition and specialises in reviving forgotten scores. Vinyes-Curtis has sung Bach with Helmut Rilling, Beethoven under Gustavo Dudamel and opera at Teatro Real and the Liceu.
The programme pairs Scarlatti, Facco and Martín i Coll with cantatas and arias by José de Torres and José de Nebra that survived the 1734 fire of Madrid's Royal Alcázar, some of them rediscovered by the ensemble itself.
About 90 minutes; for ages 5 and up. Concessions for pensioners, students and Pharos members; free for disabled visitors. Organised with the Embassy of Spain and Instituto Cervantes.
