Good afternoonkind.events
Join us for the world premiere of the documentary "Echoes of Cyprus," a captivating exploration of the island's cultural heritage. This film invites you on a journey back to the summer of 1953, when researchers James A. Notopoulos and Dimitrios Petropoulos traveled across Cyprus with a reel-to-reel tape recorder to capture the authentic sounds of the island.
Through their original field recordings, the documentary brings to life the traditional songs, oral poetry, and the rhythmic intensity of tsiattista—the island's famous improvised poetic duels. Over seven decades later, ethnomusicologist Dr. Nikoletta Demetriou retraces their steps, weaving together archival audio, diary entries, and rare visuals to create a poignant reflection on music as a vessel for memory.
Come experience how the voices of the past continue to resonate in our modern world.
