Discover 'Murmus kairos' at Velychko Gallery
We are delighted to invite you to the debut solo exhibition by Cypriot artist Kyriaki Costa, titled Murmus kairos. This exhibition marks a special milestone as it coincides with the grand opening of the Velychko Gallery’s permanent space and is featured as part of the vibrant Limassol Art Walks trail.
About the Exhibition
Curated by Deniz Arauz, this collection showcases a thoughtful selection of the artist’s latest works, including intricate embroidery, paintings, and sculptures. The exhibition invites visitors to reflect on two powerful, contrasting metaphors:
- The Canary in the Coal Mine: Drawing on the 19th-century practice of using birds to detect toxic gases, Costa explores the concept of warning signs in our modern world. Her work prompts us to consider who in our society is often sacrificed for the safety of others and how we respond to systemic inequality.
- The Wisdom of Ants: In a beautiful counterpoint to the darkness of the mine, the artist highlights the efficiency and cooperation of ants. Inspired by a real ant colony discovered during the gallery's renovation, these pieces celebrate collective resistance and the hope found in hidden, collaborative systems.
