CySO's Premiere 5: A Symphony of Styles
Join the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra for an unforgettable evening, "Premiere 5," a concert that beautifully bridges the gap between the profound depths of the Baroque era and the vibrant energy of Romanticism. Under the masterful direction of conductor Charles Olivieri-Munroe, and featuring the exceptional talent of Cypriot pianist Christos Fountos, this performance promises a rich and varied program.
Christos Fountos, a celebrated laureate of the prestigious Ferruccio Busoni International Piano Competition, brings his refined artistry and captivating technique to the stage. The concert opens with a powerful orchestral transcription of J.S. Bach's monumental "Chaconne" from Partita in D minor, arranged by Joachim Raff. This piece showcases rare gravitas and architectural brilliance, transforming Bach's invention into a compelling symphonic statement that retains its spiritual intensity.
At the heart of the program lies Sergei Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No. 1, a youthful masterpiece brimming with passion, dazzling virtuosity, and unforgettable melodies. This concerto is a testament to Rachmaninov's burgeoning genius and the piano's expressive capabilities.
The evening culminates with Robert Schumann's Symphony No. 1, "Spring." This radiant work is infused with optimism, rhythmic vitality, and lyrical warmth, inspired by the renewal of nature and the composer's own creative spirit.
This special concert series is presented under the auspices of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2026.
