Nestled in the Troodos Mountains, Agros village transforms into a fragrant paradise each April and May. Thousands of rose trees, primarily the special Damask Rose, bloom across the hillsides, filling the air with a sweet scent that travels for kilometers. This tradition began in the early 20th century when Nearchos Clerides introduced the cultivation of the Damask Rose and the art of rose water production to the villagers. Today, Agros is renowned for its annual rose harvest, producing around 20 tons, which culminates in the vibrant Rose Festival.
Join the festivities and immerse yourself in the world of roses. You can participate in the early morning rose collection, a magical experience as the flowers are still dewy. Witness the fascinating process of rose water distillation and explore a charming market in the village square. Here, local producers showcase a delightful array of rose-infused products, including rose oil, perfumes, brandy, liqueurs, and sweets. Be sure to try the "Glyko Triantafyllo Agrou," a unique rose preserve with a Protected Geographical Indication.
Beyond the roses, Agros, located in the Pitstilia area, is also celebrated for its delicious local cured meats like sausages, lountza, and hoiromeri. Pair these with a shot of traditional zivania at one of the local taverns. For those interested in culture and history, the village's churches and local museums are open throughout the festival, offering a glimpse into the region's heritage.
