Varosha: A City Held Hostage
Join us for a special free screening of the acclaimed documentary "Varosha, the Hostage City" at the Pantheon Theater in Nicosia. This powerful film, presented under the auspices of the Municipality of Famagusta, delves into the poignant story of Varosha, once a vibrant Mediterranean resort that has remained frozen in time for fifty years.
Through deeply personal accounts from individuals on both sides of the Green Line, the documentary explores the emotional landscape of a divided island. It features characters striving to keep alive the memory of a lost past and those working towards reconciliation. At its heart, the film asks a profound question: How can one build a future when a part of their history is inaccessible?
The filmmaker, Sylvie Deleule, is an internationally recognized documentarian with a strong background in urban sociology and journalism. Her work, which often focuses on historical, environmental, and human stories, has earned accolades at prestigious international festivals, including IFF Ekotopfilm and the Grand Prix International du Film d'Environnement.
